Damon's obituary
Damon C Douglas
Damon C. Douglas passed away at 3:02 pm on May 19, 2024, at Henry Ford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
While Damon spent his last moments in the hospital, staff at Henry Ford were in awe of the amount of love shown by visitors coming in to sing, read scriptures, watch the game and play his personally mixed house music in his final days.
Damon was born on June 16, 1968, to Frederick and Brenda Douglas in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Chadsey High School in Detroit and was a proud Chadsey High Explorer, class of 1986. He was lovingly known as DJ RIP from his high school years and DJ’d at most of his class's annual high school reunions.
Technologically savvy and known as a “techy,” following graduation, Damon primarily worked in electronics with companies such as Best Buy, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
With all of his many career achievements, he was most proud of his co-ownership in Side-A-Fries, a restaurant that offered a handful of home cut fries with every sandwich. This business venture was with two of his dearest friends, Chuck and Vince.
One of Damon’s passions was music, starting from his high school years. Once he began DJ’ing as a young man, he never let it go, not even during COVID. He and his friends started a rap group called Lethal, of which he was the DJ aka DJ RIP. Damon’s love for music was contagious, and he spread that energy to some of his closest family and friends, who fell in love with many of his favorite artists:
EPMD, Erykah Badu, Incognito, Eric Robeson, to name a few. He was an avid concert goer, and never missed a summer concert series at Chene Park.
Damon was a bright, charismatic, and deeply loving individual whose presence was truly "larger than life." He made lasting friends from all walks of life and cherished his relationships above all, always prioritizing and uplifting those around him. Known for his unique laugh and numerous achievements, Damon took the most pride in being a devoted father, son, brother, nephew, and friend.
Damon is survived by many loved ones, and his legacy includes his daughter, Brenay Douglas (her mother, Angie); his mother, Brenda Douglas; his sister, Verlycia Dixon; his best friend and brother-in-law Charles Dixon; his aunts and uncles, Milton (Doris), Donnita and Pamela Hester, and Helen James; his cousins Dennis (LaTosha), MaLeea and Domonique Standfield, Anthony and Trina Hester, and Keya James; his nieces and nephews, ReJoyce, Charisma, Kiante, Donovan, Donita, Carllisle, Evan, Essence, Ebony, Egypt, and CJ; and his brotherhood, Chuck, Vince, Tony, Kevin, Dee, Torrey, Eric, Al, Virg, and Cottrel; in addition to many dear friends he made through S. Clarendon, Northfield, Colfax, Chadsey, T-Mobile, and other paths he walked in life.
He was preceded in death by several members of his family, and his welcoming ancestors include his father, Frederick Douglas; his brother, Fred “Baby Bro” Douglas (Sabrina); and his aunts and uncles, Dennis and Darney “Butch” Standfield, Debrah Standfield, and Anthony Hamilton.
