Dake's obituary

Dake F. Warren, 91, passed away on July 3rd, after a long and full life marked by service, ranching, adventure, and a love for community.

He was born in Denver, CO and was raised in Cherry Hills by his parents Bob and Charlotte Warren. He attended South High School where he excelled in football and graduated in 1952. As a teenager, he spent summers working on the Quarter Circle 41 ranch in Buffalo, Wyoming, where he developed his lifelong love for cattle and the western lifestyle. Those experiences instilled in him a deep respect for hard work and the land that would guide the rest of his life.

Dake was a proud Marine. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954-1957, Dake returned to Colorado to complete his degree in Animal Production at Colorado State University. In 1960, he purchased the Vee Cee ranch in Holyoke, Colorado. There he raised his three sons and daughter. For more than 35 years Dake grew different crops and created the Warren Cattle Company. Ranching was not just his livelihood but his passion, and those years shaped his enduring connection to family, community, and agriculture. Dake was an avid hunter and taught all of his children to hunt. Right up to the year preceding his death Dake continued to gather with his family for their annual dove hunt.

In retirement, Dake and his wife Gerri, enjoyed traveling by boat and motor home, exploring the coasts, San Juan islands, and every corner of the continental United States. Their travels eventually led them to Wickenburg, Arizona, where they settled in 1995. They invested in local businesses, including the Rusty Rooster, and quickly became part of the community fabric. Dake was a member of Los Caballeros Golf Club, serving two terms as Greens Committee Chair, and supported community traditions such as Cowgirl Up! He was also a long-time member of the Elks Club and the American Legion.

Dake is survived by his wife Gerri, his children Dake T. Warren (Lisa), Clay Warren (Naomi), Beth Madaris (Joe), 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, brother Bob Warren (Gay), sister-in-law Georgia Warren, and a wide circle of friends, who will remember him for his adventurous spirit, his love of ranching, the western way of life, and his dedication to living each day fully.

He was preceded in death by his son Louis Warren, grandson Catlin Walsh, brother Jim Warren and former wife and mother of his children Peg Reed.

A celebration of Life will be held in Denver on October 25th at Heritage Eagle Bend Golf Club (Aurora, CO) from 4-7 o’clock in the evening.

Another celebration of life will take place in Wickenburg, AZ on November 16th at Los Caballeros Golf Club from 2-5 o’clock in the afternoon.
