Curtis's obituary
Curtis Bruce "CB" Wayne, 70, of New York, NY, passed away on March 24, 2023 from natural causes.
Curtis was born on July 31, 1952 to Curtis Earl Wayne and Joan Gates Wayne in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from Shore Regional High School, West Long Branch, NJ in 1970, he went on to study Architecture at Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. He graduated Cooper with his Bachelor’s degree in 1975 and then began his Master’s at Harvard Graduate School of Design graduating in May 1976. As an architect, his designs ranged from an Amsterdam Opera House set, an airplane hangar at Wright Patterson AFB, several banks including the headquarters building for Bridgehampton National Bank, and numerous residential projects. He sat on many boards, including the French-American team that restored the Statue of Liberty and the alumni board at Cooper Union.
In more recent years, Curtis enjoyed hosting an architectural podcast called Burning Down the House on the Heritage Radio Network. He wrote two self-published books, The Accidental Yankee and The Shape of Things That Work: The Fourth Architecture. He was also a docent for the Municipal Arts Society, conducting colorful tours of Grand Central Terminal.
Curtis was predeceased by his parents, Curtis and Joan, and his sister Constance. He is survived by his children Alison Wayne McVeigh, Natalie (Randall) Bowers, and Daniel Wayne; grandchildren Margaret and Astrid Bowers, and Cole and Riley McVeigh; sisters Nancy (Russell) Meyer and Claudia Wayne; nephews Charlie Rhoades and Patrick Andrew Cash; and niece Kimberly Wybiral. There will be a funeral service at 11:00am on April 25, 2023 at the Chapel of St. George’s Episcopal Church, 4 Rutherford Place, New York, NY.
