Curtis's obituary
We come to you with a heavy heart to announce the passing of Curtis K. Kaanapu, a man whose voice and spirit resonated deeply within the Oklahoma City community. Born on December 8, 1973, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Curtis's journey led him far from his island birthplace, yet he carried the warmth of aloha with him throughout his life. Sadly, on September 3, 2024, Curtis's song was silenced prematurely due to a tragic drowning accident.
Curtis was a beacon of love and selflessness, touching lives through his passionate performances. He was a cherished member of many music associations, an active participant of Talent Quest Oklahoma and Talent Quest International as well as singing competitions and other venues throughout the state, such as Oklahoma's Rodeo Opry, El Reno's Backwood's Country Show & Mary's Music Barn. Curtis's love for singing competitions was more than a hobby—it was a reflection of his vibrant soul and left a memorable mark on the hearts of his audience.
He was a proud alumnus of Mount St. Mary Catholic High School and furthered his education at Rose State College, which shaped his career path in life.
Curtis is survived by his mother, Clara Kaanapu; his loving wife, Marie; his adored daughter, Kaia; stepchildren, Mason and Laryssa Brown; and his cherished grandchildren, Rosemary, Sonny, Nicholas, and Sebastian. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and a voice that could move mountains.
He will be deeply missed, but his melody will resonate forever in our memories.
**We will be holding a "Celebration of Life" on Saturday, September 21st @ 2:00pm. Curtis loved a good potluck, so in his honor, please bring your favorite dish and come celebrate him with us.
