Crystal's obituary

Crystal Yvonne Powell was born on December 31, 1956, in Chicago. At a young age, she was lovingly adopted by Willie and Ruby Adams and grew up alongside her adopted brother and sister, Guy Adams and Margaret Adams. Crystal spent her childhood and much of her life in Markham and Country Club Hills, Illinois, communities where she built lasting friendships and cherished memories.

Crystal was a proud and devoted mother who loved her three children deeply. Her family was always the center of her world, and she made sure her children grew up knowing the importance of love, gratitude, and resilience.

Crystal dedicated her professional life to caring for others as a Mental Health Technician. In that role, she shared not only her knowledge and compassion, but also her joy and music, bringing comfort and friendship to residents and coworkers alike. Crystal had a rare gift for connecting with people. Wherever she went, she made a friend or found someone who needed a helping hand.

Even after retirement, Crystal never stopped caring for others or pursuing what mattered to her. She began a personal mission to find her birth family, eventually locating them with the help of DNA testing. With determination and love, she reunited with her biological sisters and extended family, quickly building bonds with nieces and nephews and creating a bridge of connection that had once been out of reach.

Crystal was a woman of strength, kindness, and wisdom. She taught those around her many lessons, but most importantly the value of loving others, solving problems with patience, and always remaining grateful.

She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Adams, Latrice Tidwell, April Gibson, and Constance Eldridge; and her brothers Michael Gibson, Brian Gibson, and Reuben Marshall. Her sister Helene Gibson, and brother Guy Adams, along with her parents preceded her in death. She leaves as her legacy, her daughters Monica White, and Marilyn Nethery (Ronald Nethery), and her son Maurice Powell. Crystal has six cherished grandchildren- Jaylen Powell, Lauren White, Courtney Nethery, Ajani Powell, Ahmad Powell, and Olivia Nethery.

Crystal Yvonne Powell will be remembered as an incredible mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for her family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
