Courtney, you made a difference in my life at a time I needed it most.

I miss texting you. I miss your one-word, or emoji response, to my (almost) daily text.  

I'll always cherish our 10 days of morning coffee, before the other residents woke up,  watching the first light begin to creep above the Ohana aina.

Courtney and I shared 10 days together in Hawaii. We share a common demon. She welcomed me with an open mind and an open heart when I was broken. She asked gentle questions without expectation of return, she shared small stories.  We learned that she lived a mile from one of my daughters and went to the same schools as two of my daughters. She was older than my youngest.  She shared simple honesty with me. She helped open my shell. She helped a 56 year old man become honest with himself. She listened, and then told me truth, about myself, and about herself. She laughed at me. It was a nice laugh.

Courtney told me that I was Enough, that I was good enough, that I was worth it. She told me that. She was the first one to do that. That was a truth moment in my life and recovery. I will never forget that. 

Never.

I will keep talking to you when I need to.  I may not hear your voice, but I will feel your presence. I will never see a round two-person wicker lanai seat without seeing you in it.

 We spent only a short time together. It was a powerful time.  Courtney is still powerful.

She is worth it.

Courtney, you blessed me with your friendship when I needed it most. I will cherish you and love you, one day at a time.
