“A CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFE”
Corneliu E. Popovici, of Wilton, CT passed away peacefully on March 14, 2021, after a valiant battle with cancer. A warrior throughout his life, he was 73 years old.
Corneliu was born on May 7, 1948, to Eugen and Eugenia Popovici in Bucharest, Romania. He was a fearless, tenacious, and curious boy. Traits that would serve him well and after he graduated from college in 1966, he managed to obtain a visa to Yugoslavia and cross the border into Austria. After living over a year as a refugee in Vienna, he was finally granted political asylum by the United States, and in 1969, he boarded a plane to New York City in pursuit of the American dream.
He spent the next decade mastering the language and absorbing the American culture he so admired. A true believer in the American system of free enterprise, it was not long before Cornel embarked on his first business venture in New York City. which kickstarted the founding of several small businesses in marketing and advertising throughout the following years.
In 1978, he fulfilled a lifelong dream and became a proud citizen of the United States of America. He met his wife Jocelyn Flores in 1985, and they wed one year later.
Cornel was predeceased by his parents, Eugen and Eugenia, grandparents, and uncles. He was also predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Rebecca and Keith Lazaro.
He is survived by many loving individuals, including his wife Jocelyn; cousins Letitia (Dimitru), Gabriel (Liliana) and Sebastian Topor; his aunt Rodica Nicolescu and cousins Raluca, Dragos (Simone), Nicole and Julia Nicolescu.
He is also survived and will be dearly missed by his sisters-in-law Luzette Flores and Eileen (Robert) Bradley; his nieces Kristie (Aristides) Corredor and Mallory (Jamar) Benjamin; his nephews Keith, Justin, and Jordan Lazaro; and his great nephews and nieces, Jaiden, Cameron, Amaya, Arianna, and Riley.
Cornel requested a cremation and that his ashes be scattered in some of his favorite spots. The private Memorial being held today is to celebrate his life.
