Connie's obituary

On April 1st, 2024, Constance "Connie" Joyce O'Neill (née Bauer) made her grandest exit yet, leaving behind a world less sparkling without her bewitching presence. Born in Hamlin, New York, on the 15th of February 1959, Connie's life was a tapestry woven with threads of joy, a healthy dose of sarcasm, and an indomitable spirit that warmed the hearts of all who knew her. Her sudden departure, at the age of 65, was no April Fool's joke, but anyone who knew her dark sense of humor would know it was the “perfect day” to mark the end of a life that was as spirited as a well-orchestrated prank.

Connie O'Neill's life was the epitome of persistence and strength. She embraced her journey with unwavering determination and a grace that resonated with everyone she met. She welcomed her one and only child, Elizabeth, into the world on April 8th, 1991, while living in Charleston, South Carolina. Despite raising her as a single mom, having to take on the role of both mom and dad, she navigated parenthood with unparalleled strength, displaying not only her resilience but also her incredible sense of humor. She considered raising her strong-willed daughter and making it through those tempestuous teen years (without losing her mind completely) as one of her greatest accomplishments. The joy she felt in being a mother was only matched, and quite possibly exceeded, by the immense happiness and fulfillment she found in becoming a grandma, or Gaga, as she was affectionately called.

Connie's years on earth were a symphony of moments that ranged from the heartfelt to the hilarious, with her grandsons taking center stage in her heart. Beneath her sometimes-cynical surface was a woman who adored spending time with her boys. She was a grandmother who knew that the best way to view the world was through the eyes of her grandsons. Their time together was filled with ice cream, fart jokes, and creating the kind of memories that truly deserve an encore.

Connie leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter as well as a trail of stardust for her mother, Joyce Hermance; her sisters, Dianna Bauer Doolittle and Sharon Durrant; her beloved daughter, Elizabeth Wiggins; son-in-law, who she viewed as her own, Kenneth Wiggins II; and her grandsons – the apples of her eye – Liam and Nolan Wiggins; as well as countless cherished friends and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Arthur Hermance, and her dear friend, Jack McInnis, who surely awaited her arrival with open arms and a cheeky joke to match her own.

Connie's life will be honored not with mournful cries but with a symphony of laughter and fond remembrances at a Celebration of Life (details to be announced) that promises to be as spirited as she was. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to assist with Connie's end of life expenses. Donations can be made at https://everloved.com/life-of….

We say goodbye to Connie O'Neill, whose life was an epic tale, not without a good dose of sarcasm, but always delivered with love. She may have exited stage left, but her performance as a beloved friend, mother, sister, and grandmother will forever be a tough act to follow.
