Constance's obituary
Connie Bussi
A Tough Cookie
Connie Bussi, a cherished matriarch to her family, prominent member of her community, and servant of God, passed peacefully on Sept. 25, 2024. Born April 9, 1928, in Staten Island, NY, as Constance Elizabeth Pisano, she lived her life genuinely interested in everyone and everything; she lived for …and brought joy to… everyone who had the honor to know her.
As a young girl, growing up during the Great Depression, Connie supplemented her family’s wages by cleaning houses and selling scrap metal. As the youngest of nine, her resilience, generosity, and strength never floundered throughout her ninety-six years. She would crack a smile whenever she was reminded that she was “one tough cookie.” As a young woman, Connie married Gino Bussi on September 11, 1948, a year and half after their first date at a luau in Annadale Beach, NY. They raised four children, Raymond, Kathleen, Ellie, and Gina. Always dedicated to her family/friends, her Italian culture, and God, Connie was known to host and help cater many elegant events. She worked as a secretary at Joura Movers in Staten Island, NY and as an administrative assistant at Ebasco in the Twin Towers in New York, NY, before moving to Hope Mills in 1983. Later in life, she spent her time volunteering at Cape Fear Hospital, Good Shepherd church, and various community organizations and clubs. She enjoyed tennis, golf, reading, crafts, and a good milkshake. She made everything beautiful, whether that included gifts, table settings, or food displays.
Connie will be remembered for her unparalleled strength, unwavering integrity, and reliable advice. When asked what the secret to living a long, fulfilling life, she said, “1. Seek the advice of the older generation, 2. Don’t worry about things you cannot control, 3. Be loyal and honest to your family, 4. Travel and smile often.”
Connie is preceded in death by her parents, Constatino Pisano and Margherita Disanto; her eight siblings, Phil, Jean, Tess, Ann, Pauline, Lucy, Margie, and Andrew; and her husband, Gino Bussi. Connie is survived by her children and their spouses: Raymond and Debbie Bussi, Kathleen Bussi and Allen Arthur, Ellie Bussi, and Gina and Scott Stroble; her grandchildren and partners: Jessica and Sean Taylor, Melanie and Robert Morgan, Jackie and Ian Rose, RJ Bussi and Emily Kolonia, Talia Bussi-Sottile and David Bakov, Ryan Arthur and Kate Braun, and Gianni Arthur; and her great grandchildren: Johnathon Beasley, Jace Beasley, Morgan Taylor, Madison Taylor, Matthew Morgan, and Christopher Morgan.
