Colleen's obituary
Colleen McKeever, 69, of Shelby Township, Michigan, passed away serenely on October 5, 2024, leaving behind a family that is simultaneously grieving and trying to figure out where she hid the remote. Colleen departed this world the way she lived in it: with humor, sass, and perhaps a little too much butter.
Colleen loved nothing more than spending time with her family, whether they were enjoying a beach vacation or gathered around her kitchen table. Colleen is survived by her two children, Chelsea and Jake, who both somehow managed to survive the many times she quoted her dad’s old saying “watch how you go,” and her own ever enduring words “you’ll know when you know.” Colleen treasured moments with Brittney and Jake sharing an ever lasting and unconditional love for Jaxon, Lily Lou and Colton. All three weathering baseball games, barbecues and beach vacations, all three never missing a chance to celebrate family and friends.
Colleen’s appetite for fun, laissez-faire good nature, warmth and strength in heartfelt convictions, enveloped those around her and she made family out of friends and friends out of family. Her inexplicable bonds to Debbie and the Kutcher/McCann clan are proof of those anchored beliefs in how a cousin can become a sister, how extended family can become close family, and how love speaks of no relation other than “I love you.”
She had a laugh that could fill a room and an eye-roll that could humble even the most confident teenager. It’s safe to say Colleen never met a crossword puzzle she couldn’t finish or a glass of wine she didn’t appreciate.
Her friends, an incredible group of people who laughed alongside her through thick and thin, will remember her humor, generosity, and that mischievous streak that may or may not have involved smuggling a few steak knives home from a restaurant or two. Colleen had a soft spot for sunflowers—bright, bold, and always turning toward the sun, much like her sister Denise’s and her own spirit. 🌻
Though she has left this world, the love and joy Colleen brought into the lives of those around her will never fade. In her memory, we’ll not mourn but celebrate her—a woman who knew how to enjoy life, cherish her family, and leave behind a trail of laughter wherever she went.
In true Colleen fashion, her final request was for no somber funeral. Instead, she wanted a joyous celebration of life! Attendees are encouraged to bring their best jokes and their favorite memories. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a moment to watch a ballgame with your loved ones or go on a spontaneous adventure—just as Colleen would have done. Rest easy, Colleen, and may your fields be forever full of sunflowers.
