Clyde "Pops"'s obituary
Clyde “Pops” Carter
November 21, 1941 – December 25, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clyde "Pops" Carter, who left this world on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, at the age of 83. Clyde spent the last 30 years of his life in Desert Hot Springs, California, where he became a beloved figure in the Coachella Valley community.
Clyde dedicated over 15 years of his life as a crisis counselor with the Student Assistance Program at Desert Sands Unified School District. He worked with the Indio Youth Task Force, now known as the Coachella Valley Community Trust, to improve the lives of at-risk youth, and with Village Counseling to help better his local town of Desert Hot Springs. To him, the young people he worked with were more than students—they were “his kids.” His life mission was to remind those struggling with addiction and hardship that they were not defined by their mistakes and to help them envision a brighter future.
After losing his leg in a motorcycle accident, Clyde turned his own challenges into opportunities to inspire others. He became a facilitator for the Board of Amputees, dedicating himself to helping fellow amputees persevere and keep moving forward despite their circumstances.
Clyde was a devoted family man, survived by his loving children Nicole Mullen and her husband Kevin Mullen, daughter Yolanda Triggs and her husband Travis Triggs, son Ethan Carter and his partner Jaquelynn Ray, and son Shawn Gage. He was a proud grandfather to Talisha Gage, True Triggs, Cian Mullen, America Triggs, Jillian Mullen, Eleanor Carter, and Emilia Carter. Clyde is also survived by his brother David Carter and many cherished nieces and nephews.
He now reunites in peace with his beloved parents, Amparo Rigg and Clyde Carter, and his brothers Wayne Carter and Danny Carter.
A memorial service will be held on February 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Desert Recreation District, located at 43-900 San Pablo Avenue, Palm Desert, CA 92260.
Clyde “Pops” Carter will be remembered for his incredible heart, his relentless dedication to uplifting others, and the profound impact he made on countless lives. His legacy of love, guidance, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Pops. Your light will never fade.
