Clayton's obituary
Clayton "Clay" Adkinson, a man of extraordinary warmth, kindness, and humor, departed this world on July 18, 2023. Born on March 17, 1942, Clayton was a beacon of inspiration and compassion to all who crossed his path.
Known affectionately as Clay, Clayton was a larger-than-life figure who radiated boundless love and laughter. His spirit was infectious, and his uncanny ability to light up a room was unparalleled. Despite these nicknames, he held a preference for Clayton--a testament to his simplicity and humility.
Clayton is survived by his wife, Jane R. Adkinson of Fairburn; daughters, Abby G. Neely of Kenosha; Carla N. Jones of Atlanta; brother, Charles Adkinson of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Derrick C. Neely; Elizabeth M. Neely; Lydia K. Neely, and many nephews and cousins. He was a dedicated father, tirelessly devoting his life to raising Abby and Carla. His life's greatest accomplishment was being a dad, a role he wore with unconditional love, dedication, and a touch of humor. He had a unique way of making even the smallest moments feel special and teaching valuable lessons in the most unexpected ways.
One of the most profound lessons Clayton shared was derived from Matthew 6:24: "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money." This message, which deeply resonated with Clayton, encapsulates his values and approach to life. He prioritized love, compassion, and service above material pursuits.
Clayton leaves behind a rich legacy of kindness and love. He touched countless lives with his generous spirit, changing them for the better. His legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
Clayton's departure has left a void that cannot be filled. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the good fortune of knowing him. His memory, however, remains a beacon of love, strength, and inspiration. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing his spirit, love, and lessons continue to guide us.
Clayton’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 22nd from 12 pm to 2pm. It is a small gathering with family and close friends. Please send your thoughts and prayers to his family during this difficult time in our life.
