In Loving Memory of Claudine Trettenero: A Life Embodied in Resilience, Heritage, and Enduring Love
Claudine Trettenero, a radiant and resilient soul born in 1932 in the enchanting city of Paris, France, embarked on a life journey that wove personal triumphs into the remarkable pages of history. Her life, akin to a captivating tapestry, reflects threads of fortitude, heritage, and enduring love that have imprinted an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of sharing in her extraordinary journey.
The early chapters of Claudine's life unfolded against the haunting backdrop of World War II, where Paris, her cherished city, bore witness to occupation. Born to Rene’ and Marguerite Travnicek, Claudine, accompanied by her younger sister Francoise, navigated these challenging times under the steadfast care of their mother. Meanwhile, their father, a valiant member of the French army, served with bravery as a prisoner of war. As a young girl and adolescent, Claudine faced the trials of war with a grace that belied her tender age. This resilience, forged in the crucible of wartime hardships, would serve as a guiding force throughout her remarkable life.
Claudine's family history showcased the sacrifices of her father, René Travnicek. A proud member of the French Legion of Honor, René's unwavering commitment to his country left an indelible mark on Claudine, inspiring values of fortitude and honor that illuminated her life's path.
Amidst the deprivations of World War II, Claudine emerged as an exceptional student, not only excelling in formal education but also demonstrating a profound talent for various forms of art—painting, drawing, and dressmaking. Her linguistic prowess extended beyond her native French, encompassing fluency in English, Italian, and Spanish. Barely 20 years old, Claudine used her language skills as an employee translator at the prestigious Galeries Lafayette in Paris. The pursuit of knowledge and experience led her to distant shores, with an internship in Mexico City becoming a transformative chapter in her journey. In 1954, she arrived in Los Angeles, California, where she worked as an interpreter and serendipitously crossed paths with her first husband, John Broe. Together, they brought four beautiful lives into the world—Steven, Joanne, KarenAnn, and Francoise—who became the focal point of Claudine's life.
After dedicating herself to raising and nurturing her children, Claudine embraced a new chapter, focusing on her love for fashion through dressmaking and tailoring, coupled with an unwavering passion for travel. Following the dissolution of her first marriage, Claudine opened a fashion boutique playfully called “Zut” in Corona Del Mar, California. Fashion remained a constant hallmark of Claudine's life, with her wardrobe serving as a canvas for self-expression and a celebration of life's beauty in all its forms.
Claudine eventually found other life partners and formed enduring connections with many friends. She also embarked on sailing adventures that explored destinations across the globe. A widow to two husbands, she found love and companionship with Warren Howland of Rio Verde, Arizona, and later with Larry Trettenero of Brentwood, Tennessee. Claudine's life journey meandered through diverse landscapes—from the vibrant cityscape of Los Angeles to the serene beauty of Palm Springs, the tranquil haven of Rio Verde, the charming allure of Brentwood in Tennessee, the tropical paradise of Kauai, and the peaceful sanctuary of Santa Rosa at Varenna senior living. Her final chapter unfolded in the comforting embrace of San Luis Obispo at the Village at Garden Creek, where she began to cultivate a sense of community in the final few months of her remarkable life.
On January 21, 2024, at the age of 91, Claudine Trettenero passed away, after battling heart and lung conditions. She leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.
