Claudel's obituary

Claudel Palmer was born on June 27, 1940 in Santa Monica, Calif. She was the only child of Frances Helen Wickel and Dillivan (Del) Lowe Palmer. Claudel spent her life in Santa Monica and Palm Springs. A talented artist, Claudel was a skilled musician, dancer, and artist whose performances and artwork earned her many friends. Her expertly painted portraits were inspired by handsome movie stars and the Wild West, showcasing her passion for Native American culture.

In addition to the arts, Claudel was a devoted advocate for animal welfare. Through her business Sweet Pet Tootie, she served as a pet sitter and treated each animal as if they were her own. She enjoyed the companionship of her own pets, including her cherished dog, Molly, and her cat, Sweetie Pie and all the other pets she had during her life.

Claudel was involved with many activities and organizations, including the Redondo South Bay Art Association, Art Gallery of Old Town, the Redlands Art Association and the English Springer Rescue America - just to name a few! She was passionate about her Christian faith and active in her local church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.

Claudel’s memory lives on in her beloved cousin (who was more like her Sister), Marvel Ghione of the Bay Area. Her extended family in Northern California and Northern Nevada celebrates her accomplished and artistic life. Her grand nieces and nephews regarded her as a second grandmother and will never forget how she sent a special card for every holiday. Claudel had friends from all walks of life who will remember her fondly. The family would like to extend their many thanks and appreciation to the Charter Hospice of the Desert during the last month of Claudel’s life, especially the nurses and LVNS Claudia, Leo, Rhiannon, Lizette, and case manager Abraham. Their daily support given to Claudel and to the Family during this difficult time will always be greatly appreciated. Additionally, the family shares extreme gratitude and love to Brenda Boden and Fredda Fox, two of Claudel’s most loving and devoted friends. If each of us can have such wonderful friends like Brenda and Fredda how lucky we would be!

Claudel has been laid to rest with her parents, Del and Frances Palmer, at Inglewood Cemetery, Los Angeles.
