Claude's obituary

Claude Regis

Claude truly believed and exuberantly lived the quote "Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting Wow...What a ride!" Whether it was skiing, canoeing, snowboarding, biking, hiking, curling, rollerblading, skateboarding, snorkeling or sailboarding, he relished the experiences and gave his all. Moreover, he was always the teacher and loved sharing his expertise with others earning him the nickname "Coach". When he retired from teaching computer technology at St. Lawrence College, he first joined the Ski Patrol and then became a certified ski and snowboard instructor at Vorlage.

In addition to his interest in computers, Claude was a life-long learner. He took lessons in piano, swimming, cooking, singing, gymnastics, ballroom dancing, Spanish and sewing in his retirement. Table tennis at the Senior's Centre and at the Walnut Grove Club House was a much loved activity and later pickleball became another passion.

From a young age Claude learned about construction from his father and became adept at building and renovating. The only thing he wouldn't tackle himself was masonry work. When he and Cathy bought their house in Walnut Grove, they bought it 'as is' and Claude completed the rest himself.

Claude, the only child of Laurette and Wilfrid Regis, was born on October 25, 1939 in Cornwall, Ontario. He is survived by his wife, Cathy, daughter, Dee (Wayo), and stepsons, Matthew (Terri), Andrew (Anita) and Mark (Alanda, Predeceased) Ogilvie. Grampie was very proud of and much loved by his eight grandchildren, Grace, Drew, Gordon, Satria, Evan, Olivia, Ella and Ava. He is remembered fondly by his brother-in-law, Douglas Haffner (Margaret) and sister-in-law, Cynthia Haffner (Rob). Claude was predeceased by his son, Kelly.

Cathy would like to thank Brian and Maggie Mendonca for their friendship with Claude during these last years-they have been an unwavering support through this terrible Alzheimer's Journey. She also wants to extend gratitude to her wonderful family and friends who have listened, comforted and encouraged her during this time.

The family would like to thank Dr. Maria Hussain and Dr. Rosemary Hanna for their compassionate care of Claude while he was at Providence Care Hospital. The nurses and staff provided respectful care and kind support to Claude and his family-they could not have done more!

Please remember Claude's mantra, "This isn't a dress rehearsal" and do something you really enjoy in memory of Claude's joie de vivre.

A Celebration of Claude's Life will be held in the summer.
