Clarice's obituary
Clarice Elizabeth James Robinson, 82 years old, of Brandon, Florida departed from her earthly body and arrived in her heavenly body on May 8, 2023. She was born in Tampa, Florida to Bill and Amanda (Lewis) James on June 20, 1940. When Clarice was five and a half years old, she lost the ability to walk due to polio. The LORD God, the Great Physician, answered the faith Bill and Amanda had in Him along with the prayers of a Dr. Bond. Clarice was healed immediately after her parents took her to Dr. Bond for prayer. Her healing was a catalyst for Clarice to want to know more about the God who healed her.
Clarice grew in her knowledge of the Lord by what her parents and half-sister, Ethel Mae, taught her. Her participation and service at Keystone First Baptist Church as Sunday School Secretary, Junior Missions President, Union Foreign Association Officer, Florida State Convention Officer, Prayer Band Member, and choir member helped develop her faith and relationship with God. As an adult she continued in serving the Lord Jesus Christ as a faithful disciple by speaking about Him to others, reading Scriptures during service, serving in Sunday School, and encouraging others in their walk with the Lord.
In addition to her service at Keystone First Baptist Church, Clarice also served in various positions in school, which included being a National Honor Society Secretary, Bible Club President, Home Economics Department Hostess, Junior Class Vice President, and Senior Class Secretary. Clarice attended Citrus Park Elementary School, Dillard School, Booker T. Washington High School, and Middleton Senior High School.
After graduating as salutatorian from Middleton Senior High School in 1958, Clarice received a scholarship to study Home Economics Education at Florida A & M University (FAMU). The scholarship resulted from the 4-H Club work she had been involved in with the Agricultural Extension Service. During her time at FAMU, Clarice served as a dormitory counselor for freshmen women in McGuinn Hall. In her own words: “I had the opportunity to tell the young women about Christ as well as give them guidance for settling into a more comfortable college life.”
In addition to earning a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education degree from FAMU, Clarice met the love of her life – Ira Charles Robinson. Within a few months after graduating from FAMU, Clarice and Ira married on August 11, 1962 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was first employed as a teacher at Oliver High School in Cross City, Florida after graduating from FAMU. While Ira was a graduate student at the University of Florida (UF), Clarice worked as a Home Economist for the Florida Agricultural Extension Service. In this position she was a faculty member of the University of Florida Agricultural Division and was the youngest Extension Service agent UF had hired in Florida. She found this work very rewarding.
In spite of being told by physicians she would not be able to have children, Clarice and Ira were blessed to have four children: Ira Charles II, Patricia Clarice, Krishwin Amicus, and Charmalyn E’lan. The most meaningful, impactful, and joyful work Clarice did in her life was being a homemaker, being a mother. She has written a plethora of encouraging letters to many. As gifted as she was as a writer, she was just as gifted as a seamstress. Clarice has authored numerous poems and a book about her Awesome God in whose throne she arrived on May 8, 2023.
Clarice was predeceased by her parents and husband; one daughter: Patricia; four brothers: Esau, Jacob, Seymour (Quinteen), and Isaac (Cha); three half-brothers: Andrew, Clifford, and Frank; two half-sisters: Pearl and Ethel Mae (George). She is survived by three children: Ira II (Karen), Krishwin (Tiwana) and Charmalyn (Eric); seven grandchildren: Ira III, Kira, Kristia, El-Hajj Malik, Krish George, Erica and Amani; one great grandchild: Ava; four brothers: Clarence, Matthew (Eva), Daniel, and William; two sisters: Dora and Mattie (Robert) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
