Cindi's obituary
Cindra “Cindi” Burks Jones was born January 7, 1955 in Hardtner, KS to Marquita (Martin) and Eddie Burks. She was raised in Freedom, OK by her paternal grandparents Thomas “Pod” and Ruby Welty. She earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. She went on to build her life and raise her family in Ponca City, OK where she resided until her death. Cindi was married to Richard Jones on December 31, 1993, and shared her life with him and her two daughters, Jennifer Hinesly and Lyndse Rust.
Cindi started her career with the Ponca City Chamber of Commerce and spent many happy years working with her family at Sullivan’s Trucking. Cindi served The Opportunity Center for more than 20 years, building lasting friendships with so many clients and their families.
Cindi was a proud mother and grandmother, cherishing the time spent with her family. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer and her husband Charley of Tulsa, and Lyndse and her husband Kenny of Ponca City. She delighted in her grandchildren Jaelon Thornton, Adison Phillips, and Aidyn Phillips, who brought great joy to her life.
Cindi was known for her sense of humor, sarcasm and quick wit. She often embraced her favorite saying, “Don’t let the turkeys get you down,” living her life with a (mostly) positive spirit and endless sass. Cindi was an avid fan of OU football and relished her love for Mexican food.
Beyond her immediate family, Cindi had a remarkable ability to connect with others. She welcomed hundreds of friends into her life through her daughters. She loved and accepted all strays, animals and people, accepting them with open arms and an open heart. A member of the Jay-Cees, she was deeply involved in her community, making a lasting impact on those around her.
Cindi is survived by her husband, daughters and grandchildren as well as her aunt Lanora and Uncle Larry Bradt of Clearwater, KS and several nieces and nephews who she adored. Cindi will be remembered not only for her contributions to her family and community but also for her loving spirit and the indelible mark she left in the lives of many.
