Christy's obituary
In Loving Memory of Mr. Christy Edward
Obituary
We are deeply saddened to announce that Mr. Christy Edward passed away peacefully at the age of 88, on Wednesday 11th February 2026.
Family
Christy was the beloved and devoted husband of the late Leela Edward. He was the son of the late Mr. Peter Benedict Swampillai and the late Mrs. Mary Magdalane Swampillai. He leaves behind his sons, Johann and Peter, and his daughters-in-law, Isabelle and Philippa. Christy was the proud grandfather of Juliette, Chloe and Lola. He is also remembered as the brother of the late Anton Swampillai, the late Pavalam Selvadurai, Cyril Swampillai, the late Jeya Swampillai, and the late Chandra Bastiampillai.
Community and Legacy
Christy was a much-loved member of the Sri Lankan community, with strong ties to Jaffna St. Patrick’s High School and the community in northwest London. He was a great friend, ‘uncle’ and neighbour to his local extended family and the wider community, always willing to offer advice, friendship and assistance to anyone in need.
A philanthropist and patron of several charities, Christy was especially dedicated to causes supporting children. He enjoyed socialising and treasured the company of friends and family. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and lifelong school friends.
We take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and reunited with his beloved Leela. May he rest in peace.
Charitable Wishes
In keeping with Christy’s wishes, we kindly request no flowers. Instead, those wishing to honour his memory may donate to BBC Children In Need, a charity particularly close to his heart.
