Christopher's obituary

On November 22,2020, Christopher Lincoln McKelvy, 27, passed away in Brentwood, TN after a year long battle with Brain Cancer.

He was born on February 15, 1993 in Nashville, Tennessee to James and Karen McKelvy. Christopher was a graduate of Lipscomb Academy. He later attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois where he graduated with his Bachelors of Arts in Communications and a Masters of Divinity.

Christopher married Emily Schrock on September 30, 2020 in Holland, Michigan. He selflessly loved and served Emily throughout their five year relationship.

Christopher was a lifelong learner. He loved reading and had an extensive library of history and theology books. Friends often joke that they knew Emily and Chris were getting serious when Chris added another reading chair to his home library. Christopher was incredibly creatively gifted. He enjoyed playing the piano, writing, and renovating houses.

Christopher was hospitable and loved to cook extravagant meals. He often welcomed neighbors, loved ones, and friends into his home for dinner parties. Though the food he prepared was delicious, anyone who attended would say the best part of these dinners was the fellowship and kitchen dance parties that Chris led as he was cooking.

Christopher was the life of the party, the quintessential Enneagram 7! Christopher has a magnetic personality and the unique ability to make even the most mundane tasks feel like a grand adventure.

One of Christopher’s favorite titles was “Uncle C”. He was the proud uncle of Thomas, Blakely, Henry, and Hallie. One of his biggest goals in life was to be “the fun uncle”. To achieve this goal, he would often set up intricate obstacle courses for Thomas and Blakely, and sing silly songs with Henry and Hallie. He obsessively shared pictures, videos, and stories about his nieces and nephews with anyone he met.

Christopher was a devoted husband, a beloved son, brother, and uncle, a cherished friend to many and a faithful member of his church, who, above all, loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His love for the Lord was evident in every interaction he had. He served and loved each and every person he came into contact with. Even in his final days, when his earthly body began to fail, Christopher’s love for the Lord and His word was evident.

Christopher is preceded in death by his Grandparents, Ruby and Henry Burns. Christopher is survived by his wife, Emily Schrock, parents, James and Karen McKelvy, Brothers, Henry (Lindsay), William “Liam”, David, and Maverick McKelvy, grandparents, Eloise and James McKelvy, nephews, Thomas McKelvy and Henry Bernard, nieces, Blakely McKelvy and Hallie Bernard, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, in laws, and friends.

Due to the pandemic, a private funeral and graveside service will take place on November 25, 2020 in Brentwood, TN. A public celebration of Christopher’s life will be held at a later date.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Ingram Cancer Center at Vanderbilt University. It was at Ingram that Christopher received excellent care in his last year of life. His family is forever grateful for the loving nurses, caring doctors, and dedicated researchers of Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
