Christopher's obituary

Christopher M. Cantell, 62, of Sarasota, Florida, USA, passed away peacefully of a heart attack in his sleep at his home on Thursday, August 3, 2023. He leaves his loving wife of 18 years, Natalie Cantell. He leaves his daughters and their families; Jennifer and Marshall Simmons of Hooksett, NH, Janie Cantell of Marblehead, MA, Anna and Jordan McGinty, Westford, MA, and Natalja Sophia Cantell and four grandchildren, Abigail and Christopher Orne of Marblehead, MA, Andrew McGinty of Westford, MA and Lillian Simmons of Hooksett, NH. He was born in St. Albans, Vermont, on June 6, 1961 to the late Judith (Bedore) Cantell and Horton Machia. He is predeceased by his parents and adoptive father Michael Cantell.

He is survived by his siblings Debra (Cantell) Thrush and partner Louis Badger of St. Albans, VT, Richard W. Cantell and his wife Joan Cantell of Franklinton, NC, Teddy G. Cantell and his wife Becky Tipper of Sheldon Springs, VT, Mark Machia of St. Albans, VT, and Malinda Collins Burleigh of Mooers, NY.

Chris is also survived by his foster parents Priscilla and Conan Trombly of Swanton, VT and their daughter Bonnie Skarka. Doc and Cill loved Chris as their own son. They encouraged him to pursue his education and were an integral influence in his choosing Engineering as a profession. Throughout his life, they were his loving and guiding force.

Although Chris traveled extensively and lived in Europe and Sarasota, FL for many years, he was originally from Vermont and was a true woodsman. He passed his love of nature on to all his children through camping, hiking and gardening. He also loved to sail with friends and family.

He was a graduate of Missisquoi Valley Union High School (Class of 1979) and Northeastern University with a Bachelors in Science in Computer Science (Class of 1983). He received a full scholarship to attend college. During his youth Chris enjoyed playing many sports, acting, and dancing. He was a state wrestling champion.

He was a business entrepreneur and loved to dream big. He was a devoted father and husband. He loved to travel and lived in many different places. Chris had an extraordinary mind and memory. He would have a conversation with anyone, loved to learn about many topics, including history, architecture, science and many others, and never hesitated sharing his knowledge with others.

A private funeral was held for close family and friends in Lithuania. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Vermont for family and friends. For more information please contact Anna McGinty at annacantell@gmail.com.
