Christopher's obituary

Christopher Robert Higgins, 51, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 24 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 3,1973, in Edina, Minnesota, Chris lived a life full of creativity, kindness, and deep devotion to his family, friends, and work.

Chris was many things—an imaginative visual artist, a passionate cook, an unforgettable host, a loyal friend, and above all, a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Maggart Higgins, and sons, Macsen Thomas and Porter Bruce. He also leaves behind his mother Shirley Seguin and stepfather Albert; his father Thomas Higgins and stepmother Diane; his brother Shane Higgins, sister-in-law Kelly, and nieces Sophia and Elena; his mother-in-law Barbara Maggart and father-in-law Bruce; his brother-in-law Christopher Maggart, nephew Nolan, and niece Ava. Chris is survived by loving aunts Brenda “Aunt B” Davis, Diana Baird, Anna Newsome, Carole Rutledge, and Phyllis Modica as well as numerous uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his beloved uncle Leon Baird, grandparents Doris and Robert Higgins, and Nola and Eugene Davis.

Chris and Jennifer's love story began in the fifth grade at Rocky Mount Elementary School. From those early years, their connection only deepened—growing into a partnership that spanned decades, rooted in friendship, humor, and shared passions. As a father, Chris instilled his curiosity, creativity, and zest for life in Macsen and Porter. Whether cooking homemade cinnamon rolls, appreciating the joy of the lake and beach, or attending live music shows, Chris brought warmth and intention to every moment.

Professionally, Chris spent 26 years in the television and film industry as a visual effects supervisor, crafting mesmerizing scenes that sparked imagination and wonder. His work took him to Turner Studios, Cartoon Network, and Crazy Legs Productions before he found his creative home with Crafty Apes. He was the proud recipient of a Southern Regional Emmy for his work at Turner Studios and a Student Emmy while at the University of Georgia, where he helped co-create the 3D Animation major.

Chris achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and served in the US Army Reserves. An accomplished percussionist, Chris performed in the award-winning Lassiter High School Trojan Marching Band and the Seed & Feed Marching Abominable. A true Renaissance man, he had a gift for hospitality—his legendary MacDaddy BBQ, homemade Southern biscuits, signature cocktails, and welcoming spirit made every guest feel like family.

A lover of live music, Chris attended up to 30 concerts a year, always seeking out the magic of a great performance. Chris was a dedicated runner, completing 15 consecutive Peachtree Road Races and many other 10K, 5K and adventure races, rallying friends and family to join him at the starting line.

A private service will be held on May 31 in Atlanta. A celebration for television and film industry colleagues will be held on June 1 in Atlanta. Lassiter High School friends will gather on June 28 in Marietta to remember Chris.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Furkids, honoring Chris’s lifelong affection for cats and dogs.
