Chris's obituary
A devoted father, brother, father-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend, Chris William Clark was
born on Monday, February 26, 1945 to the late Alfred Clark, Sr and Margaree Joe Clark in
Thebes, Arkansas. He was the 4th child of 13 from this union. Chris accepted Christ in his life
while attending Saint Peter Missionary Baptist Church. Chris attended schools in
Portland Arkansas.
After relocating to California in 1968, Chris began working as a Merchant Seaman. In 1977,
he started working for the Oakland Unified School District as a custodian. He retired from the
school district in 2007, after 30 years of dedicated service.
On August 25, 1973, Chris married the late Queenie Bonner. To their union five children were
added: Wanda, Chris T., Cory, Jessica, and Ja’Nea.
When Chris wasn’t hustling and working hard, he enjoyed cooking, gardening, hunting,
fishing and going to the casino. Some of his signature dishes included, fried chicken,
smothered steak, candied yams, collard greens, cornbread dressing, banana pudding,
sweet potato pie, and peach cobbler. No animals were safe around Chris W. Clark, for he was
raised to live on the land and to hunt. He enjoyed watching nature shows, horse racing, sports
and the local news. Chris was also an excellent storyteller. If he told you a story, he would tell
it so well that you wouldn’t know if it was the truth or not. Chris enjoyed telling stories that
only he knew about, because they could not be verified.
Chris loved his family and enjoyed traveling back south/home every year, up until his health
started to decline. On every trip home, he made a point to visit everyone he could. He was
proud to show his children who their family was and where they came from. He was also the
family historian.
Chris was very punctual. He didn’t believe in being late for anything. He didn’t like to rush,
so he always left in enough time to get where he was going early. He didn’t believe in
showing up at someone’s house unannounced. If he wasn’t invited to an event, he would not
attend. If he was invited, you’d be lucky if he did attend. Chris was never one to say a ton of
words in public, but he would be able to tell you everything that went on.
Chris was preceded in death by his siblings, James Eneree, Willie Dean, and Mary Pearl
Hemphill, and great-grandchild My Angel Fairly.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons: Chris T. Clark, and Cory D. Clark; three daughters:
Wanda B. Campbell (Craig Sr), Jessica L. Clark, and Ja’Nea L. Clark; grandchildren: Chantel
S. Campbell, Jonathan L. Campbell, Craig S. Campbell, Jr, Christian K. Clark, Semaj T.
Clark, Austen A. Flowers, and Julian C. George; great-grandchildren: Dinari Collier, Zaria
Fairly, ShyAngel Campbell, and Quinton Hubbard; siblings: Alfred Jr, Freddie (Jean), Eddie,
Donnell (Joyce), Raymon (Ann), Claudell (Patrice), Jessie, Dorothy Grayson, and Kathay
Brown; life-long friends: James Tolefree, Johnny Dupree, Bill Matthews, Virgle Lewis, and
