Chiyoko “Chiyo” (Miyamura) Herrera died March 5, 2003 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born January 18, 1920 in Kumamoto, Japan to Yaichi and Tori (Matsukawa) Miyamura. She was brought to the United States at the age of 22 months in late 1921. She was a life long resident of Gallup, New Mexico. Chiyo was a member of the Legion of Mary and Sacred Heart Cathedral. She was past owner and operator of the Lucky Lunch who her father stared and the Liberty Cafe. Survivors include her sons, Gerald J. (Patti) Herrera of Gallup, New Mexico; John "Babe" (Judy) Herrera Jr. of San Ramon, Calif.; Michael D. (Martha) Herrera of Chandler, Ariz.; daughter, Nancy L. (Alex) Ortiz of Los Lunas; brother, Hershey (Terry) Miyamura of Gallup, New Mexico and Kei (Kimi) Miyamura of Alhambra, Calif.; sisters, Momoko (Ben) Saruwatari of San Francisco, Calif.; Shige (Nari) Sasaki of Oxnard, Cailf.; Susie (Hieda/Tyra)Tanikawa-Tashiro of Chino Hills, Calif.; and Michiko (Hiedo)Yoshida of Rosemead, Calif.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Herrera was preceded in death by her husband, John Herrera Sr and parents, Tori and Yaichi Miyamura, daughter Lenore and baby son John. Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
