Chiara's obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Chiara "Nonna" Amato. Chiara was born in Molfetta, Italy on June 24, 1929, and immigrated to the United States with her family in 1972. She peacefully left us on December 13, 2025. She was a cherished individual known for her caring, selfless, and resilient nature.
Chiara was predeceased by her husband, Pantaleo Amato, and her siblings, Mauro, Lucrezia, Maria, and Ninetta. She also experienced the loss of her parents, Giuseppe and Marianna Mastropierro, and her niece, Martha Valente. Despite these losses, her courage never waned, and her love for her family remained steadfast.
She is survived by her cherished daughter and son-in-law Marianna and Mauro Sancilio, grandson Antonio Sallustio, grandson Giuseppe Sallustio and his Fiancée Jennifer, and grandson Francesco Sallustio and his girlfriend Krista as well as her Ex son-in-law and his wife Pantaleo and Teresa Sallustio. Her surviving siblings, Annita, Saverio, and Leonardo Mastropierro, and nephews, Ignazio and Joe Valente and their children, will continue to remember her fondly.
In addition to her role as a loving mother, grandmother, and sister, Chiara was known for her exceptional skills as a seamstress. Her creations were not only a source of income but also a source of joy for those who had the privilege of wearing them. Her work ethic, mixed with her love and talent for sewing, made her a renowned figure in her community.
The funeral service for Chiara will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum. As we gather to pay our respects, we'll not only remember Chiara for her accomplishments but most importantly for her loving, selfless, tough, and caring character.
Chiara's legacy will live on in the heart of her family and in every stitch of fabric she has meticulously worked on. Her love for her family and passion for her craft will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. Rest in peace, Chiara "Nonna" Amato, you will be missed dearly.
