I was very sad to hear of Cheryl's passing. We worked together while posted in Liberia about a decade ago. She was very kind and supportive to me as a new foreign service officer, and I have never forgotten that. My sincerest condolences to her family.

I am so heartbroken over your loss. Just a couple of days before you passed, you crossed my mind, and I wasn’t able to call you. I’m so sorry. Had I called, we would have been able to pray one more time before you left us. I would have been able to speak to you, to hear your voice.
It’s hard. But I take comfort in knowing that you were a woman of faith. You knew God, and I truly believe you are home with our Maker, in a better place.

Cheryl, I miss you and your smile every day! I loved our little chats in your office about what you were going to do on your R&R and what food you missed the most from home. I will always remember fondly our trips to Dharamsala and Karnataka - all those steps that you hated - your knees complained but not you - you were such a trooper. Your enthusiasm was infectious and made the trips all the more enjoyable. Somehow even when you were stressed you made time to chat and ask how I was doing. Thanks for caring and for being such a wonderful person. You definitely made the world a better place for everyone that you came into contact with.

Cheryl was a breath of fresh air. She was always welcoming and never minced words. She spoke her truth and that's what I loved most about her. We were thrilled and blessed to find her and our Detroit family. They made our family tree whole again. Only time will heal the hole that has developed by her absence.
