Cheryl's obituary
Cheryl Jane (Green) White was born January 29, 1962, to Cecil and Betty Green in Lexington, KY, while they awaited assignment to the mission field. When she was 6 months old, she embarked on her life as a missionary kid (MK), first on the island of Saipan and then (at age 2) the Philippines. Except for furloughs, she lived there until she graduated from high school at Faith Academy in Manila in 1980. At Faith Academy Cheryl played softball, sang in multiple choirs, worked on the school newspaper, and made lifelong friends in the dorm and her class.
After graduation, she attended multiple colleges until she earned her baccalaureate degree in nursing from Biola College in 1987. Along the way, she met Bob White while visiting her sister, Joyce, in southern California. Bob attended the Santa Ana General Baptist Church where Joyce’s husband, Gene Koker, was pastor. Cheryl and Bob were married on July 9, 1983. They had two children: Kyle, born in 1985, and Kimmy, born in 1989 on the day that Bob graduated from USC.
Cheryl was a nurse in southern California until they moved to Olney, Illinois in 1991. She worked as a nurse and nurse practitioner throughout the region for nearly thirty years, her last five years in Evansville.
She was a devoted parent to Kimmy and Kyle. She attended countless soccer and basketball games, band concerts, and school plays. She made regular trips to Aurora to visit Kyle as a high school student at the Illinois Math and Science Academy. After the kids left home, Cheryl poured her enthusiasm into cheering for University of Kentucky basketball (Go Wildcats!) and caring for Ellie, her Great Pyrenees.
Throughout her life, Cheryl was a faithful and active church member. She especially loved music ministry; for many years she was on the worship praise team. Anyone who ever attended church with Cheryl knows how much she loved to sing harmony.
Cheryl very suddenly went home to be with Jesus on June 28, 2023 at age 61. She joins her husband Bob in heaven. She is survived by her children (Kyle and Kimmy), mother (Betty Ann Green), 3 siblings, and a large extended family.
