Rick's obituary
Cherrick "Rick" McGinnis, 46, of Kansas City, MO, passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2025 in his home.
Rick was born on January 22, 1979 to Becky Stanley and Dan McGinnis in Kansas City, MO. In 2003, he met Melanie, and they were married in 2010. In 2019 they had Reilly, the light of their lives. Rick was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was extremely proud of Reilly and was determined to raise a great person, which he was doing. Anyone who knew Rick knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.
He was an amazing friend to many and would drop anything to help a friend or family member in need. He loved supporting his friend's businesses, causes and adventures however he could. He was honest and kind and wanted nothing but for his friends to be successful in life.
Rick was a passionate home brewer and could often be found at local breweries chatting it up with one of his many brewing family members. He was a member of the Missouri Mashers and spent many weekends brewing and sharing his beer at festivals. He loved brewing with his friends and was so proud to be a part of the home brewing community.
He was a devout sports fan of all Kansas City teams, but his heart belonged to baseball. Rick was raised a Kansas City Royals fan and stayed a fan to the end. He played baseball every Sunday to stay fit for the annual Royals Fantasy Camp. He met his extended baseball family there and cherished the time he spent with any and all of them.
When he wasn't Brewing or doing all things Baseball, you could find Rick fishing, watching sports and playing with his son.
Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene and Bessie Stanley and Helen McGinnis; his Uncles Randy and Eddie Stanley and cousin JR Stanley. He is survived by his wife, Melanie and their son Reilly; his mother Becky Stanley; father Dan McGinnis; sister Michelle Schuller; niece Sarah Schuller and nephews Tyler Schuller and Seamus and Bodhi Burns along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
