Background
Our mom was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer in February 2021. She began treatment which consisted of 5 weeks of radiation, 5 days a week and chemo for 5 weeks, once a week. She was making great progress and had finished her chemo on May 10, 2021. She went that Wednesday for radiation, and only had two more radiation treatments to go.
On Thursday, May 13, 2021 around 5:30 am my sister found her on the floor of her room. She was reaching for my sister and couldn’t speak. She was rushed to the ER and life flighted to Georgetown. She suffered a massive stroke which damaged almost the entire left side of her brain.
On Sunday, May 17, 2021 the doctors informed us that my mother would not be able to speak, move her right side or understand what we are saying. Basically she would require 24/7 care and wouldn’t be able to communicate. Her quality of life is not one she would want to live.
She was on life support which we had to make a decision to remove her from. This is not a decision either of us can come to making. We were hoping that she would be able to have some sort of quality of life. We were with her when she transitioned to be with her family.
Our mom had no life insurance to cover any of this. To be honest, we assumed we had more time to eventually prepare for this way down the road. My sister and I do not have the funds to cremate her right now. We can obviously make payments towards the costs, but we wouldn’t be able to bring her home until paid in full.
If you can provide any support it would help us get her home that much quicker. We are grateful for any help. This is the last thing we ever expected to happen or even have to prepare for!
