Cheri's obituary

Our beautiful beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother Cheryl (Cheri) Lynn Brubaker passed away at home in Florida on 8 Nov 2023. She leaves behind husband David, son Trent (Sarah), daughter Carley (Mark Walker), and 6 grandchildren: Paige, Grey, Evelyn, Sam, Jack, and Calvin. Cheri and Dave were high school sweethearts married 50 years and she was a military wife for 30 of those years. They had several duty assignments in four States, and she touched the lives of many servicemembers & families.

Cheri was born in Anderson, Indiana on March 28th, 1953. She is survived by 3 brothers (Chuck Ehrman, Carey Ehrman, Chris Ehrman) and two sisters (Connie Harris, Cindy Jacobs). She graduated from Snider High School in 1971. Cheri and Dave were married in 1973 and settled in Fort Wayne to raise their family. Cheri was an orthodontic technician and worked for several different offices throughout her career. She met her life long best friend, Peg Murray, while working for Dr. Dellinger in Fort Wayne. Cheri was an avid boater, water skier, angler, kayaker, beach comber, and shark tooth hunter. She loved the water, especially the white sands of Florida, and made her homes as close to the shore as possible. She loved introducing her grandkids to swimming, dock jumping, waterskiing, and fishing. Cheri could also be found on rollerblades, often exploring new countries and cities with Dave on her skates. She enjoyed the city life of Washington DC and also the quiet rivers of Virginia. In the last years of her life, she traveled back and forth between her homes in Florida and Virginia.

Cheri was a gracious host and welcomed all into her home – always sharing any comforts that she had. So many have experienced her warm and welcoming hospitality. She was a devoted wife and mother, sacrificing much to support Dave’s military career, and raising her kids to be responsible and independent. She held strong Christian beliefs and was fiercely patriotic. You always knew where Cheri stood on any subject as she was unabashedly honest and direct. Cheri enjoyed family retreats in the past several years that included trips to Maine & Yellowstone and a cruise to the Bahamas. The family surprised & delighted her with a Florida visit to celebrate their 50th anniversary in June. Cheri loved her family, her home & life in Florida, and her newfound relationship with Bayside Church in Palmetto.

The family will host a Celebration of Life for Cheri at the Arlington National Cemetery Women’s Memorial on 11 May 2024 from 1-3pm. Details of the event, parking, and accommodations will be shared with those attending. Due to rules & limitations at Arlington Cemetery, we ask that you please rsvp your attendance (on this web site). Cheri (and eventually Dave) will be interred at Arlington at a future date in a private family ceremony.
