Chase's obituary

In loving memory of Chase Richard Schwalbe

Chase lived a life full of adventure, laughter, and heart. Family, friend, or stranger, it made no difference; he welcomed all with open arms, a warm meal, and a generous heart. To know Chase was to feel cared for, nourished, and loved.

From an early age, Chase found joy in the great outdoors. Whether hunting in the rolling hills of southern Iowa or simply soaking in nature’s beauty, he felt most at home under open skies. His love for heavy metal music was legendary among friends and family. It was a soundtrack to his energy, loyalty, and passion for life.

He was a proud rugby player throughout high school and through the sport, Chase built lasting friendships on and off the field. His teammates became family, and those bonds remained strong throughout his life. After graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in mechanical engineering, Chase took his talents across the country, exploring new places and experiences that fed his adventurous spirit. He was employed most recently with the Kiewit Corporation of Kansas City. He loved his work there as a project manager.

He lived for his children — Fenly, Freya, and Crew. He loved Fenly's passion for art, her studies, and their mutual love for metal music, for Freya's love of math and her joy of cooking together in the kitchen, and for Crew's sweet demeanor, and his love for fishing and anything fast. Their laughter, curiosity, and spirit filled him with pride and purpose. They were the lights of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Also, his love for his Dad, Kitty, sister Stef and grandparents, was well known. His family, friends and Victoria meant the world to him. His love was deep, unwavering, and evident in all that he did.

Along his path, he discovered a love for great food — both tasting it and creating it. Known for his incredible barbecue and fearless approach in the kitchen, Chase brought people together around the table with his warmth, humor, and signature dishes.

Chase's love was not quiet; it was loud and expressed through action — in his laughter, the meals he cooked, the stories he told, and the countless ways he showed up for those he loved. Feeding others was his way of saying “I care about you!”

Taking care of those around him always came before taking care of himself. He carried a passion for life that could not be contained — you could see it in the smoke of his grill, in the excitement of his travels, and his interest in everyone he met. He had the rare gift of turning strangers into friends, and moments into memories. Chase's presence filled every room. He was, and will always be, a force of love in this world — a heart too big to ever be forgotten. His love and our love for him will never fade.
