Charlotte's obituary

Charlotte Marie (Linse) Peapenburg, age 88, of Peoria, Arizona, died Tuesday October 3, 2023, in Kountze, TX, at the home of her son Mark Peapenburg. She joins her husband Pete in the house of our heavenly Father.

Charlotte was born on April 28, 1935, in Modena, Wisconsin to Anna J. (List) Linse and Eugene W. Linse, Sr. Charlotte attended elementary school in Modena, WI and graduated from Mondovi High School, Mondovi, WI. She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin, Madison where she met her husband, Eldor Herman “Pete” Peapenburg of Neenah, Wisconsin. They were married August 24, 1957 at St. Paul Lutheran Church Modena WI. After the wedding, they were stationed in Lincoln Nebraska while Pete was enlisted in the United States Air Force at Lincoln Air Base. After Pete’s discharge from the Air Force they moved to Wausau, Wisconsin. While in Wausau, Charlotte and Pete’s sons, Todd Eugene and Mark Albert were born. Soon after, a job promotion led them to southern California, then to El Paso Texas, and finally to Phoenix, Arizona.

Arizona began Charlotte’s life-long passion for volunteering. She served on the alter committee, taught Sunday School and VBS at King of Kings Lutheran Church; served on District Stewardship Committee; Phoenix area council, - member and Secretary; Board of Education member; Choir member; Hospitality Chairman; Lutheran Laymen’s League member and Registration chairman – 1984 International Convention.

Lutheran Women’s Missionary League volunteer activities included,

Local – President; Vice President for Mission Education; Vice President for Mission Inspiration; Vice President for Mission Service; Secretary; Treasurer; and Historian.

Zone – President Vice President; Secretary; Public Relations Director and committee member; Retreat Coordinator; and Board of Directors member.

District – President; Recording Secretary; Corresponding Secretary; Nominating Committee Chairman; Bylaws Committee; Projects Committee; Registration Chairman – 1972 District Convention; Chairman, Host Committee – 1988 District Convention; and Resolutions Chairman.

International – Recording Secretary; member Equalizations and Bequests and Offerings Committees; Liaison to Discipling Woman to Woman Committee; Credentials Chairman; presenter at District President’s Workshops; Chairman – Nominating committee; member – Board of Directors.

Community volunteer work included – PTA; 4-H; Hacienda de Los Angeles; Good Shepherd Homes of the West; Lutheran Inter-synodical Missions of Arizona; Lutheran Social Ministry of the Southwest; El Mirage Lutheran Mission Board; worked with the El Mirage mayor’s office on flood response and camping programs; Arizona Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Association - Board of Directors member and volunteer: American Bible Society; Cub Scouts; Religious Conference Management Association member; Aid Associations for Lutherans - Secretary/Treasurer -Federation Officer – Lamplighter. Arizona AAL 1992 Fraternalist of the Year, one of the 1992 Top Ten AAL Fraternalists in the nation. A highlight was a trip to Appleton Wisconsin with a group from Arizona to successfully campaign for funding to build a main lodge for a fledgling Lutheran Church Camp outside of Prescott, AZ, Camp ALOMA.

Volunteer with West Side Food Bank’s “Brown Bag Program”, assembling and distributing food boxes for needy families and individuals, eventually heading up the program based at her church, Apostles Lutheran

President and CEO of Corway Industries, and C M Peapenburg Properties.

Marriages of Todd and Mark brought grandchildren! Oh, how she loved to dote on them! She always made herself available to help where needed and attended school and sporting events with all six of them. Arizona State University (graduating both Todd and Mark) football became a passion that she passed on to her sons and grandchildren, faithfully attending games until her health would no longer permit her to attend.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete, her sister Doris Louise (Linse) Bauer-Martin, her brothers Dr. Eugene W. Linse, Jr. and H. Frederic “Fritz” Linse, sister-in law Barbara Linse, and nephew Howard Frederic Linse. She is survived by her sons Todd (Julie) Peapenburg of Peoria, AZ, Mark (Chris) Peapenburg of Kountze, TX, grandchildren Hannah Peapenburg, Eric Peapenburg, Benjamin Geis, Katherine (Geis) Smith, Laura Peapenburg, and Elizabeth Peapenburg, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life: October 21, 2023, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2711 Helena Ave, Nederland, TX. Visitation 9:30-10:30 am, Service 10:30 am. Light meal and fellowship following.

Celebration of life: November 11, 2023, Apostles Lutheran Church, 7020 W Cactus Rd, Peoria, AZ, Visitation 10:00 -11:00 am, Service 11:00 am. Light meal and fellowship following at the Church and a gathering for family and friends at 3:00 PM at 6901 W Surrey Avenue Peoria, AZ

Burial at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
