Charlotte's obituary
To paraphrase an old saying, “Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day in the classroom with Ms. Charlotte Greaves."
Charlotte Lynette Thomas Greaves was born on August 13th, 1949, in Toledo OH and died on January 12th, 2022, at her home in Dunwoody GA.
After earning her diploma from Toledo’s Jesup W. Scott High School and a brief career as a beautician, she moved to Atlanta in 1971 and found her calling as an educator.
She graduated with honors in Education from Georgia State University in 1976 and received a Master of Arts in Teaching from Emory University in 1980.
She taught for over 35 years in Dekalb County where she was voted “Teacher of the Year” twice.
Charlotte enjoyed traveling with her son and her extended family of Lascelles and Joan Anderson with memorable trips to Tuscany, Morocco, Spain, and Jamaica.
Even after Charlotte retired from teaching, she was in demand as a substitute and tutor. After more than 35 years of loving and leading her students, heath issues required that she stop in 2016.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, the Reverend Theodore Thomas and Minnie Louise Thomas and her parents James and Louise Annette Parks.
She is survived by her son, Keith Anthony Greaves II of Dunwoody Georgia, her brother James H Parks III (Maxine) of La Quinta California and her nephew James H Parks IV (Jennifer) of Washington DC.
Charlotte leaves behind a host of family members, friends, and past students.
In the words of one of Charlotte’s favorite poems, Desiderata - “And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should, therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you can save him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all of its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.”
