Charlize's obituary
Charlize Whitney Flick, age 16, of Huxley and Boone, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Unity Point-Iowa Methodist Medical Center from injuries sustained in a car accident. With the gift of her organ donation through Iowa Donor Nerwork, Charlize helped save three lives. She will continue to live on in those she saved as well as in the hearts of all who love her
Born on September 20, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center Charlize was born at 29 weeks weighing only 3 pounds. She spent her first two and half months in the NICU. Charlize proved early on that she was a strong fighter.
Charlize was mature beyond her age. When she was younger, her teachers would comment about how at times they felt like they were having an intellectual conversation with an adult. Charlize never met a stranger. She was always looking out for the underdog and was one of the first to befriend a new student. At school, Charlize was part of the Play Crew, helping behind the scenes with sets and lighting. She has many wonderful friends who she enjoyed spending time with listening to Taylor Swift and shopping.
Charlize was very creative and artistic. She enjoyed making her own jewelry. Charlize took dance for a short time and had a love of all music. Her absolute favorite was Taylor Swift! She dreamed of going to her concert some day. Her dad used to play classical music for her as a child. She would often listen to music and dance in the kitchen with her mom while they cooked dinner together. Charlize loved animals and had a special connection with her dogs Tucker and Moose. She loved to travel and enjoyed spending time at the beach in Florida and the mountains in Colorado as well as Canada. She had a close bond with her grandparents and siblings and was always bringing joy to the family with her quick wit and humor. Charlize had a great fashion sense and was always seen wearing her favorite Converse shoes, even with her homecoming dress. She had a deep faith and attended Northminster Presbyterian Church in Ames and First Presbyterian Church.
