The last time I saw Charlie, I was in the wilderness somewhere between Whistler and Squamish.
We’d driven a few kms down Squamish Valley road and ended up on a quiet stretch of river. My friend was fishing. I was doing what I always do, sitting on a chair at the edge of the water, reading my book.
About ½ way through the day, out of nowhere, these rafts started coming around the bend - you know the ones the really daring tourists take down the rapids when they’re exploring BC. One raft, then another, maybe more behind them.
They pulled up onto our little beach, a bit apologetic. We didn’t mind. We just stayed where we were, doing our thing.
Everyone looked the same in their helmets and life jackets. And then we heard it…
“Nat. Devon.”
And there he was. Charlie, already out of the raft, grinning.
It was a hilarious surprise. But there he was doing what he loved, out in the wilderness on the water.
That’s the last memory I have of him.
And it’s a good one.

Ann, you & I always had that kind of friendship that never needed to be concreted by all the times we met. Tom & I are so sorry to hear of the passing of Charlie. You have a beautiful strong family, Ann & Cathal, Eimhear, Kelly & families. P.G. you will get through this surreal sorrow.
Taylor & Shea, we are neighbours of Ann & Cathal's down the road. Heartfelt sympathy to you on the loss of Charlie. Feeling proud of the support you are getting from all your/our neighbours & friends. I cannot imagine what trauma yr family is going through. No parents, only very special ones would be asked to carry the cross ✝️ of loosing such a talented & lovable son. Prayers & condolences from all the Cooney family. Tomás & Seán aka 'The Cooney twins' are proud to have played for St Michael's GAA club with Charlie when Ian was their mentor.
Lots of Love ❤️ Marie & Tom Cooney xx

We have known your whole live. we remember so clearly the little child growing up. Next door to us, happy voice and laughter all around the school where you played by day when you started using our taxi home night for nights out. It was always a pleasure.
We shared happy time and fun. Now you've gone to your return home in heaven. We will miss your smile and kind words. Our beloved neighbour, Charlie, you will never be forgot. The Fryer family Cootehall Boyle co Roscommon

Charlie read a lovely poem at our marriage celebration in Vancouver. He had a way with words. With his big heart and cheeky smile he could get away with saying anything. He wouldn't touch a drink that evening until after he was finished with his best man duties. Then he let the hair down and ripped up the dance floor.

My condolences to Taylor, Shae and all of Charlie’s family and friends. I am missing him so much already. Been so used to working with him everyday and chatting with him about a lot of stuff. He was the only one at work that I used to discuss Footabll (soocer) with and we were both so excited for the FIFA World Cup and the to go and watch the games and chat about them all summer. Only few days ago we were both talking about buying new trucks and going offrooading together this summer. You will be missed and will see you on the other side.

Being family with you was just the best Charlie. Knowing you were a joyful part of all of our family gatherings for the last several years made life more fun. Will never forget our first meeting and getting to have you at Finn’s birthday party that first weekend will be a treasured memory
