Chip's obituary
Chip passed away on June 24, 2024, in Syracuse, New York. He is survived by his wife, Barbette, son Aaron, daughter, Rileigh, brother, John, and sister, Cheri Andres, and far too many friends and family members to count. His loving and generous spirit touched many lives and left a lasting impression that will not soon be forgotten.
Charles “Chip” Robert Welsh was born on February 17, 1956, in DuBois, Pennsylvania, where he was raised by Joanne and Charles “Chuck” Welsh, along with his two siblings, older sister, Cheri, and younger brother, John. After graduating from Blue Mountain Academy he attended Walla Walla and Andrews universities before finishing his education at Columbia Union College, earning a Bachelors degree in business administration.
In his professional career, Chip was employed at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab for some time before moving out west to assist in building and helping to run Sunset Lake Camp, in Wilkeson, Washington. After moving back to Maryland, he secured a position at the General Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists, and worked for the church for 21 years before retiring from the position of Director plant services for the General Conference in 2023.
On September 8, 1991, Chip married the love of his life, Barbette Parker. They had their first child, Aaron, in 1995, and later their daughter Rileigh in 1999. Through his gift for hospitality and love for others Chip, along with Barbette created a home that was warm and welcoming for all. While Chip was skilled in many areas, where he excelled the most was being a father. From the very beginning he was all in on being a dad! He never turned down an opportunity to coach little league, go on field trips, Pathfinder campouts or mission trips. As the kids grew he was always available for walks and talks about anything they were going through. He was a calm and attentive listener who always had words of wisdom.
Chip had many hobbies and enjoyed a variety of sports. These included golf, football, basketball, hiking/rock climbing, riding motorcycles, white water rafting, and many other activities. Above all else, Chip liked to use these activities to be with friends and family. People were his passion. Chip could always be caught with a smile and a story. He lived his life to build relationships and share his loving spirit. He had a profound impact on everyone who was blessed to have him in their life. His absence creates a deep sense of loss for all of us who knew and loved him, but it can be said with confidence that he leaves behind many joyful memories for us to cherish, and very likely a funny story to remember.
