Charles Walter Walker (Charlie)

Charlie Walker, formerly of Rising Sun, MD passed away January 18, 2022, of complications from Covid. He was 41 years old.

Born on November 26, 1980, to Kenneth and Jane Walker he was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and nephew. Charlie was a special soul that impacted so many and touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. Although he had Down Syndrome, he was very resilient and had a love for all people. Charlie was very smart, determined, and stubborn, yet also had a very gentle and loving nature. He also had a very mischievous and flirtatious side that many people came to know and love. He was witty, funny, and charming and will live on in memories of all who knew him. He was a wonderful uncle to his nephews and always enjoyed time spent with them.

In his younger years he enjoyed riding horses at Freedom Hills and being involved in the Special Olympics. Other favorites include Nascar and going to the races in his Tony Stewart attire, old WWF wrestling where he would watch his favorites Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker, listening to Christmas music, going to the Rehoboth boardwalk with family to go on the rides, playing his keyboard or sitting and visiting with friends especially longtime family friend BJ McMullen. They shared a special bond for 39 years and were two peas in a pod. Family was very special to Charlie and he always enjoyed vacations to Virginia or day trips to Pennsylvania to see his numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He also liked spending weekends at his parent’s house in Lewes, DE with family and friends and going on outings with his house counselors who were so kind to him. Charlie loved a party and was always happy when there was a reason to celebrate.

An alumni of The Benedictine School for Exceptional Children, Charlie received his certificate of completion in 2002. He made the transition to Dove Pointe in Salisbury, MD where he had been residing in a residential group home.

Charlie was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Walker, grandparents J. Daniel and Katherine Walter, aunts Sarah Brown and Isabelle Walker, uncles Harold Walker, Gary Walter, John Walter and 3 cousins.

He is survived by his mother Jane Links and step-father Bernard Links of Lewes DE, brother Michael Walker, wife Jennifer of Elkton MD, sister Michelle Walker of Chesapeake City MD, step siblings Bernard Links II, wife Jamie of Kansas City, Missouri, Kimberly J Jones, husband Allen of Jonesborough, Tennessee, Uncle Ronald Walter, wife Peg along with aunts Cindy Trout, husband John and Mitzi Headings, husband Tim. Nephews Jacob Walker, Preston Mayhew, Mason Mayhew and many cousins. Charlie also leaves behind his wonderful caregivers and so many wonderful friends.
