CHARLES's obituary
Charles Burris Terven Jr. Born September 17, 1946, departed this life June 15, 2024. He was preceded in death by his daughter in law Kimberly D. Terven, grandson Brandon Terven, Brother Dennis Terven, Sisters Sandy Azbill, and Brenda Prewitt. He is survived by his children Forrest (Jenna), Patrick "PJ" (Kelli) and Bambi Terven (Michael), grandchildren Forrest II, Bailee and Kylee Terven, Jaiden, Bre'yonah and Jaivon Bell. Brothers Rick Sr, Rocky, Donald (Donnie), sisters Judy Clark and Kimberly Billington and Sister in Law Mary "Dolly" Madden.
The oldest of 9 children born to Betty Jean Swaim and Charles Burris Terven Sr., Chuck a.k.a. Tuffy was their Leader, Protector, and Friend.
As a diehard Marine, he served in Vietnam, giving all of himself for his country and brothers, earning 2 purple hearts and several other distinguished medals.
In 1965 He married Martha Darlene Madden, whom he remained married to until her death on January 21, 2021.
Chuck was a talented and gifted woodworker who gave his all to his craft. Making toys, chess boards/ pieces, train sets, and of course, all kinds of cabbage patch furniture for his daughter. He was a Y guide leader and coached many sports, dedicating his time to teach and uplift many kids throughout the years, seamlessly stepping up as a substitute father and mentor to many young men in the neighborhood. Chuck was a true animal lover and said on many occasions that he liked animals more than he liked most people.
He was a great bowler and won many league trophies with his bowling team. He loved to travel, loved the outdoors, and wouldn't give up a chance to go camping.
He worked for 28 years at Mountain Bell/AT&T/Lucent Technologies in Phoenix Az and transferred to Via Systems in Richmond, Va, in 1994 to complete his retirement. He was a well liked, well-respected co-worker and friend.
Chuck was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and held multiple chairs within his chapter.
He spent a majority of his retirement years tutoring students, doing tax returns, and just sharing his wealth of knowledge.
Chuck loved his family deeply and was fiercely protective of the "Terven Blood."
Our father/poppa/brother/uncle fought a long and fierce battle with the poisons and effects from Vietnam. He fought an even harder battle with Dementia.
At this time, services are on hold pending receipt of his cremains for internment at Quantico National Cemetery-Home of the Marine Corps. OohRah.
He is missed deeply and loved deeper. Rest heavenly, Daddy.
