Charles Edward Sumpter, of Powhatan, Va., passed away on January 2, 2023 in hospice care, after a long battle with cancer. 

Charles was born on March, 29th 1961 to Margie Parrish Sumpter and Ernest Theodore Sumpter. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Margie Fields, Father, Ernest Theodore Sumpter I, Brother, Ernest Theodore Sumpter II,  Son, Michael Preston Sumpter and Niece, Tanya Dunn Lawrence. He is survived by his Wife, Martha Martin Sumpter, Daughter, Lisa Sumpter, Daughter in Law, Rachel Anton, Grandchildren, Cyrus (12) and Piper (10), Sister, Marjoire Sumpter (Dennis), and many other extended family members and friends. 

Charles was a long time resident of Powhatan County where he and his wife Martha raised their two children. He volunteered many years coaching baseball, football, and softball in the county. Charles enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family camping and fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. 

At this time there is no service planned, but per Charles' wishes family and friends will celebrate his life at a later date with a get together and cookout.
