I had not finished with the post I sent earlier and I’ve just now had the chance. Charles was a great Brother-in-law and was always one of the sweetest persons I had ever known. He will be missed by us all and I am especially sorry he won’t get to watch his great grandchildren grow up because I know how important they were to him. As Taylor said, I’m sure he and Doyle are together somewhere. I can’t believe they are both gone. ☹️

My condolences to all of Charles's family. I first met Charles when he started dating my sister,Anita I guess. Seems as though I have never not known him. My fondest memories I think are as teenagers running with them and being teenagers in the early 60’s maybe even late 50’s. We had a class or two together in high school.

There are too many to count. In my earlier years when we lived in Nashville, sometimes, after whatever show we were doing that night, we would stop on the way home and hop onto this AMAZING WOODEN roller-coaster! It didn't matter if it was after midnight, this particular carnival type guy was always there.. chainsmoking .😄 So, Daddy would tip him and he would let us ride several times WITHOUT stopping! It was a great coaster. It creaked and looked like an old pile of matchsticks but those were fun times engraved into my memory. I wonder now who enjoyed it more... him or I? 😄🩷

In almost 83 years, I have had no better friends than Charles and Anita. I can't remember not knowing Anita and it wasn't long until Charles was a part of my life too. Anita and I were together almost constantly from a very young age and starting about age 14, wherever Anita was, you could find Charles. Thankfully that never changed. All these years, they have been the friends with whom I could trust my life's story, and I am forever grateful that I was able to be a part of theirs. Thanks for a lifetime of friendship, Charlie, you are missed!!

Living in Nashville, my first encounters with my great-uncle Charles were through photographs. The first time I remember ever seeing Charles was in a picture where he was wearing a neck brace; I was incredibly drawn to this picture and remember staring at it a lot! One time, I remember my grandmother (Jackie Fuller) noticed me looking at the picture and said, "That's your uncle Charles!" I was now able to put a name to the face of the man with the big, expressive eyes.
The first time I met Charles in person, I was six. He and Anita had come to visit. At this point, I was deep in my pop star phase, making the whole family sit and watch me dance to Britney Spears songs. Charles was one of my most vocal supporters; I remember him exclaiming, "WOAH! as I was giving the performance my all.
Charles and I always kept in touch as I grew up. We would talk often over Facebook. I loved commiserating with him over politics. He was an advocate for the everyman and wanted better for everyone, and for our country.
I've spent my life collecting memories of Charles through the countless stories told by my grandparents. I would give my right arm to have spent time inside the world that he, Anita, Granny, and my grandfather (Doyle) inhabited while growing up together. I am gutted that he is gone and wish I could have spent more time with him, but I'm comforted by the thought that he and Granddaddy are somewhere in the afterlife playing guitar and partying together. x
