Charles's obituary
Charles Allen Peeples, age 70, left this earth on Sunday, July 14th, 2024. He was a near life-long resident of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and embodied the slower-paced, simple lifestyle that smalltown beach life is famous for. He was a graduate of FBHS, class of 1972.
“Allen,” as his family called him, was as humble and generous as they come. He enjoyed spending his free time surfing and scuba diving in his earlier years, and fishing in any body of water over his entire life. Being on the water was what he loved most as a hobby – and he won many tournaments (kingfish and otherwise) as a result. He was a longtime member of Nassau Sport Fishing Association, helped organize and run youth fishing events, and dressed as a “pirate” during the annual Fernandina Beach Shrimp Festival for many years prior to the turn of the century. He never really met a stranger, and often checked in on friends and neighbors.
As a longtime employee and retiree of Rayonier, he made numerous friends at work who fondly knew him as “Charlie” and have known him for decades.
In more recent years, he moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to live with his beloved only child and son-in-law, and his five cherished grandchildren. As a result, the family spent time enjoying just being together – while fishing, exploring, traveling, camping, gardening, having movie nights, supporting the grandkids at their games and band performances, and more. He loved people and being out in the community, adored his belated dog (Thunder), and his warm spirit will always be cherished and missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Peeples, in 2018, and his brother, James Peeples in 2017.
He leaves behind his daughter, Jaime Pippin (and husband, Patrick Pippin); five grandchildren, Jordan, Cali, Kati, Luke, and Andi; father, Kirby Peeples Jr.; siblings, Daniel Peeples, Annette P. Hartman, Rocky Peeples, and Paul Peeples. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and additional extended family who reside mostly in South Carolina.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 3rd, 2024 from 10am until 1pm at Ten Acres/Kraft Athletic Club 961023 Buccaneer Trail in Fernandina Beach. Please see the "Events" tab on this page for additional information.
