Charley's obituary

Charles James McNerny (“Charley”) Obituary

Charles James McNerny, known to many as “Charley,” passed away on March 23 at the age of 45.

Charley was a larger-than-life personality who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a natural ability to make people laugh, often through his own unique “Charleyisms,” and he thrived in the energy of those around him. He was the center of the party—someone who lit up a room and made people feel welcome.

Throughout his life, Charley worked in a variety of fields, including as a low-voltage security installer, mechanic, in radio sales, and in office management. He was incredibly intelligent, with a restless curiosity and a mind that was always moving. He saw the world differently—often thinking faster and bigger than those around him—and was never content to stay in one place for long, always drawn to new challenges and experiences.

He had a deep love for life and the things that brought people together. He enjoyed golfing, playing pool, snowboarding, camping, traveling, and dancing at nightclubs. He had an eclectic taste in music and a special love for dogs, especially his beloved girl Stella, who meant the world to him.

He was also a creative spirit and a natural artist, expressing himself in many ways—from drawing and early graffiti to humor and memes that reflected his unique perspective on the world.

Charley is survived by his father Ken, his mother Judy and stepfather Ken, his brother Jon, and his sisters Catherine and Patricia. In a way that would have made him smile, he was preceded in death by Chuck Norris.

He will be remembered not only for his humor and energy, but for the way he showed up for people. He took the time to be present—whether it was playing games with his younger sibling, checking in with a simple but genuine “are you okay… are you really okay,” or noticing when someone was down and asking, almost instinctively, for permission to make them laugh. He was quick with a joke—often a bad one—but always with the goal of lifting someone’s spirits.

He had a rare way of making people feel like they mattered, like they were the only person in the room, even though he had countless friends and acquaintances. That was his gift.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
