Charles's obituary

Charles is survived by his dear wife of 56 years, Judy, their two children Bethel and Jonathan, Bethel’s husband Robert Rodish and their three children Kaitlyn, David and Michael; also by his sister Rita Fickeisen and her three children Lee, William and Clover, and their families.

An eminently faithful and industrious man of integrity – a most fitting description of a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Charles Frank Leibensperger was born August 3, 1933, in Columbus, Ohio, the second child of Ralph and Georgia Leibensperger. His lifelong dedication and friendship with Jehovah began in earnest when, as a 21-year-old, he was baptized in 1954. In the footsteps of Christ and Christians of the first century, he immediately took a courageous stand with Selective Service as politically neutral. Then, in the midst of studying diligently at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Charles chose to re-direct his life’s energies toward “the city having real foundations,” and gladly entered the ranks of the full-time ministry.

In 1956, Charles was invited to serve at the World Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Brooklyn, New York. For the next ten years, as a member of the Bethel family, it was his privilege to work alongside precious brothers and sisters who enriched his life. As he often commented on this cherished period of spiritual growth, he grew to love so many who “belonged to the greatest consolidation of anointed Christians on earth at that time.”

In 1964 he married the love of his life, Judith Yeatts, and together they continued to serve at Bethel until they started a family. Their daughter Bethel was born in 1966, and their son Jonathan in 1969.

Over the years he excelled at various assignments including hospital liaison committees, regional building committees, convention planning and administration, and for eleven years he volunteered his services at the Watchtower Educational Center in Patterson, New York. However, his greatest enjoyment was in assisting others to come to know Jehovah. He studied the Bible with dozens of people and treasured, as they did, the comforting and transformative message the scriptures impart.

Charles, or “Chuck” to his friends, will always be remembered for his warm love of people, his amazing ability to recall even the smallest details of their lives, and for his remarkably generous spirit. His ability to share complex ideas with a minimum of words was a rare gift, and his Christian personality and calm demeanor had a wonderfully healing effect on those happy to be
around him.

With joyful hearts his family can say he truly lived up to the words of his favorite scripture, Micah 6:8: “And what is Jehovah asking back from you but to exercise justice and to love kindness and to be modest in walking with your God!”
