Charles's obituary

Charles “Pete” Lewis Franklin Sr. family man, life of the party, shameless flirt, and all-around jokester. On February 7, 2020 after complications from a short and valiant fight with cancer Pete died peacefully in the West Haven Veterans Hospital Hospice Unit.
Pete was born August 6th, 1955 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was predeceased by his mother Doris (Lee) Howard and stepfather Willie “Fats” Howard. He took great pride in his family, especially his beautiful daughters and handsome sons, as well as all his grandchildren.
Pete is survived in legacy by his wife, Darlene (Jennings) Franklin, his children Charles “Skeet” Franklin Jr., Nakia Green (Kenneth), Travone Franklin (Jennifer), Tinesha Franklin, Akilah Franklin and Lateefah Franklin, his siblings Julia Franklin, Arthur “Spuddy” Franklin, Burnette “Fuzzy” Howard and Stacey Howard, 20 grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Pete joined the service in 1972, as a Marine. He was stationed in Albany, Georgia, completed 4 years of service to his nation and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal. His loyalty and dedication to his country never ceased as later in life Pete was employed by Veterans Affairs and continued to volunteer his time to his fellow veterans.
To know Pete was to love him. In his final days although he could be an ornery, grumpy old man he was forever affectionate and caring, with plenty jokes. He kept his family, and hospital staff consistently amused with his antics.
His family would like to thank the West Haven Veteran’s hospital nursing staff, Oncology and Palliative care team who took great care of Pete and his children during such a difficult time.
In honor of Pete his family will host a memorial service on Thursday February 13, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Howard K. Hill Funeral Home 94 Granby Street, Bloomfield, CT all are welcome to attend and encouraged to share memories.
