Chuck's obituary
It is with great sadness that Charles Anthony Ford (Chuck) passed away at his home in Rosamond, California on May 2nd, 2024 at the age of 76, after a long fight with cancer.
Chuck was born on May 15th, 1947 in Long Beach, California. He graduated from St. Anthony’s High School in 1965. After High School, he was drafted into the Army and served honorably in South Korea from 1967-1969. Upon his return, in August of 1969, he married Nancy L. Underwood, and they remained married until his death. Chuck was a loving husband and incredible father to their two children, Sandra and Scott.
Chuck worked as the “best damned welder alive” at ARCO from ’69-’82, the City of San Bernardino from ’83-’84, and the City of Redlands from ’84-’09, at which point he hung up his flamboyant welding hats and retired. While at the City of Redlands, he mentored and positively impacted many of his coworkers.
Chuck prided himself on his welding career, toughness, hard work, and his dedication to family and loved ones. He enjoyed all things Great Outdoors and believed being in nature was his “Church of choice”. He also had a passion for music, since his youth, owned and played several guitars. He was an avid animal lover who cared for dogs, cats, and even pet possums. He possessed a toughness rarely seen in today’s world, evidenced by his ability to recover from the loss of two fingers and despite being told he would never weld or play guitar again, he did both, and did them well. His spirit could not be broken, and his light will shine for those lucky enough to have known him, for ages after his passing.
Chuck’s was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra who passed in 2002. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his son Scott, his daughter-in-law Sumi, granddaughter Brianne, a cat named JoJo, and a whole lot of pigeons that he fed in his back yard.
A celebration of life will be held at Plantation on the Lake, in Calimesa, on June 9th. If you would like to attend, please contact his son, Scott Ford, or wife, Nancy Ford for more details and directions, or click the "event" tab on this page to RSVP.
