Chuck's obituary
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Charles "Chuck" Erickson, born in Moline, IL, to Peter and Marjorie Erickson on November 25, 1939 . He departed our lives on May 24, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, companionship and many fond memories. An affable man who was always eager to talk, he was known for his steadfastness, resilience, and kindness. Chuck taught us to live life on our own terms, and his greatest accomplishments were undoubtedly his daughters and grandsons, of whom he was infinitely proud.
Chuck graduated from Lake Forest Academy in ~1957, before pursuing his further education at Carleton College and then Emory University, where he graduated in ~1962. He spent his career in social work and various forms of law enforcement throughout the country (he delighted in telling tales of his years "out in California" and in Colorado), ultimately serving as a magistrate at the Gaston County Courthouse for over 20 years before his retirement in 2003. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed working at the local par 3 golf course and volunteering at the Southport-Oak Island Animal Rescue before ultimately moving to his beloved cabin in Franklin, NC, where he particularly enjoyed listening to music and knocking a few back at Currahee Brewery with his dog Pepper.
Charles was predeceased by his wife Linda Erickson, whom he married in 1983. He is survived by his daughters Megan and Charli Erickson, his grandsons Drew Hoffman and Remy Sisk, his sons-in-law Jason Hoffman and Robert Sisk, his sister Judy DeZurik, and his constant companion and dear dog Pepper. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, with whom he delighted in keeping close touch. He was a doting grandfather to Drew, to whom he was lovingly known as "Bumpa," and to Remy, to whom he was beloved "Grandpa Chuck." The boys will miss him dearly.
We have lost a pillar of the family and a kind spirit. His memory will live on in our hearts and in his children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations to "Southport-Oak Island Animal Rescue" can be made at https://everloved.com/life-of… as we commemorate and celebrate the life of Charles "Chuck" Erickson.
