Duane's obituary
Charles Duane Epperly, 84, of Shaw, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 after a short battle with cancer. Duane was born to Charles and Marjorie (Hoppe) Epperly and raised on the family farm in rural Salem. He graduated from North Salem High School in 1955 and began his career at Boise Cascade Paper Mill as well as joining the National Guard Reserve. Duane has always been a car enthusiast, and in the National Guard he worked in the motor pool where he further refined his automotive expertise.
Duane met the love of his life, Glenda, and they married in 1960, settling in Salem. In 1967 they purchased a farm in Shaw, where they raised their three children and lived for the next 55 years.
Duane was a talented woodworker, vintner, artist and fixer of all things, but above all, family was central to his life. His roles as a father, grandfather, and husband were what he enjoyed most. He will be forever remembered for his hardworking nature, kindness, and for his love of his family. He is sorely missed as a caring friend, loving father, and arguably the world’s best grandfather.
Duane is survived by his sister: Gloria, daughter; Julia and sons Mark and Tim, grandchildren; Matthew, Hannah, Amanda, Haley, and Cole, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Glenda and his sister Carole.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of his life, to be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 17th, in the backyard on the farm.
