Charles died on April 2, 2025, at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Charles was born in Trenton, Tennessee on May 30th, 1950, the fifth of eight children. Charles attended Peabody High School. In 1971, he moved from Trenton to South Bend, Indiana. On September 1, 1972, he married Barbara Bynum in Kingsford Heights, Indiana. He moved to Flint, Michigan, where he lived for more than 30 years before returning to Trenton in 2015.
Fondly remembered by children, Shirley (Aaron) Partee of Trenton, Tennessee; Cornelius Lemont (Yolanda) Weems of Federal Way, Washington; Anthony (Julia) Johnson of Milan, Tennessee; and FaLessia (Mario) Booker and Shayla (Lawrence) Parries of Flint, Michigan; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great, great-granddaughter; brother, Henry Michael (Lydia) Howard, sisters, Pamela (Jimmy) Jackson, and Sandra Gail (Michael) Howard, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, including longtime friends Pastor Steven and Mageela Wheeler.
Preceded in death by both parents; daughter, Mary Charlene Armstrong; sister, Linda Sue Kelley; brothers, Harry Powell, James Powell, and Dannie Howard; second mother, Lillie Newhouse, special cousin/brother Michael Newhouse, and one granddaughter.
