Charles's obituary

Charles Cholevitz, age 58, died unexpectedly at home in the Green Ridge section of Scranton. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cholevitz.

Charles was born around 1884 in Europe in the Crimean Peninsula. He came to America as a young boy with his family and settled in Scranton. He was distinguished, thin, and always carried a cigar in his hand. He was multi-lingual, speaking Yiddish, German, and English fluently. He owned and operated "Cholevitz's Dry Goods Store" on Lackawanna Ave. across the street from the Hotel Casey.

He belonged to the Providence/ Linden Street Shul in North Scranton, which later became the Beth Shalom Synagogue on Vine Street.

Charles was survived by his loving wife Sadie Rosenberg Cholevitz and devoted daughter Mildred Cholevitz Berman who later married Morris Berman and had one son, Charles Bernard Berman now married to Bonita L. Timins.

A graveside service was held at the Dalton Jewish Cemetery by Rabbi Harry Gutterman. Funeral arrangements were made by Ziman's Funeral Home, Inc. , 612 Gibson Street. Shiva was private at the family home on 1619 Sanderson Avenue, Scranton.
