Obituary for Charles Callus
Charles Callus
May 4, 1937 – November 2, 2025
Charles Callus, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, in Laguna Hills, California, at the age of 88.
Born on May 4, 1937, in Malta, Charles grew up surrounded by the traditions and beauty of his homeland. In 1968, he immigrated to the United States with his wife, Mimmie and their two children, Louise and John, carrying only their small savings but a great deal of hope. Through hard work and perseverance, they were able to purchase a home shortly after arriving—a true testament to the American Dream. Their family later grew with the joyful arrival of their third child, Thomas, in 1975.
Charles had a lifelong passion for mechanics and built a long, respected career as a Jaguar mechanic. Known for his skill, precision, and dedication, he took great pride in his work and was admired by colleagues and customers alike.
He was a devoted family man whose greatest joy was his family. Charles and Mimmie shared 62 years of marriage, a partnership marked by love, resilience, and devotion. He leaves behind five cherished grandchildren—Jordan, Anna, Natalie, Cole, and Liam—who will carry forward his legacy of love, humor, and hard work.
Along with his family in the United States, Charles is survived by his sister Betty and his brother, Leonardo and their families in Malta, as well as many members of Mimmie’s extended family in Australia. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Salvu, who passed away in 2020.
Upon his retirement, he became an avid reader, watching any soccer match on tv, enjoyed puttering in his garden in the Laguna Woods Garden Center, helping Thomas get the first new engine and transmission into his Volkswagen Bug project car and just hanging out with his beloved wife, Mimmie.
Charles is survived by his loving wife Mimmie; his children, Louise and her spouse, Dayna Callus-Woolsey, John and his former spouse, Caryn Griffiths-Callus, Thomas and spouse, Courtney Callus and his grandchildren. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He lived a full and meaningful life, marked by hard work, deep faith, and an unwavering commitment to his family.
Charles’s Celebration of Life will be December 5, 2025 at 10:30 am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 24252 El Toro Rd, Laguna Woods, CA 92637.
