Charles Berman passed away on Sunday morning, April 13, 2025, a day after his 78th birthday, at Regional Hospital in Scranton, Pa. while listening to the music of Cantor Azi Schwartz. Born on April 12, 1947, Charles lived a life full of compassion and kindness, touching the lives of many with his generous spirit.  He was the only son and caretaker of his parents, Morris and Mildred Cholevitz Berman,  and married to his beloved wife, Bonita Timins.

Charles attended Hebrew Day School, graduated  from Scranton Tech. H. S. in 1964, and completed an Associates Degree from Lackawanna Junior College in Business Management in 1966.  He earned his B. A. in Business from Bethel College in McKenzie, Tenn.  and did post graduate study in Advertising at the University of Scranton.

He was a member of Ohav Zedek Congregation on Mulberry Street and the Jewish Community Center in Scranton.  Charles had been a Past-President of the Odd Fellows Israel Lodge and belonged to the Hill Neighborhood Assoc.  Favorite interests were Broadway Theater, film, politics, and traveling.  He found great pleasure in driving his Cadillacs.  He was a sports fanatic and loved the New York Yankees and Penn State football.  

Charles was employed by N. B. Greenfield & Co., Scranton, Pa., and Jamesway, Inc, Taylor, Pa, in accounts receivable.  Until retirement, he worked  at Preferred Meals in Moosic, Pa.

While at Jamesway, Charles received the "We Care"  Committment To Excellence Award for outstanding performance.

He had a life-long interest in Art and brought wonderful creativity in his work as an Independent Curator when assisting his wife.  He was influenced by his daily experiences.  Although later in life he was legally blind, he had an incredible visual memory when planning presentations of artwork and objects.

Charles had a roving curiosity that ranged from architectural drawings, paintings by Marc Chagall, to Old Victorian Houses. He was sophisticated and clever providing much inspiration to Bonita.

His steadfast love for his wife, Bonita Timins who lovingly cared for him, was a testament to his warm and loving nature. He has left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His passing is a significant loss to all who loved and respected him.

Charles' memory and legacy will forever be cherished by Bonita and the many lives he enriched. He is survived by brother-in-law Edward J. Timins Jr. and wife Fifi, large extended family and many friends.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 14th at 11 a.m. at the Dalton Jewish Cemetery, Dalton, Pa. in the Providence-Linden St. section by Rabbi Dovid Saks.

There was no local Shiva.
